Winner in highway auction in Brazil

The Way-306 Consortium won the MS-306 highway auction with a bid of BRL 605.3 million (USD 146 million) to manage 220 kilometers of highway in the Brasilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul over the next 30 years. This was the first highway auction in the state.

The MS-306 highway project involves the development, upgrade, finance, operation and maintenance of the 200.1km stretch between Bolicho Seco (BR - 359) and Cassilandia. MS-306 is a transit route for the transportation of grain, besides integrating three cities of Mato Grosso, Chapadão do Sul, Cassilândia and Costa Rica.

The Way-306 Consortium is formed by the companies Global Logistic Properties (GLP), Comércio Bandeirantes, TCL, Senpar and TORC.

In total two consortia participated in the auction. Via Brasil MS-306 consortium and Way-306. The winning grant surpassed by approximately 500% Via Brasil's offer of BRL 100 million (USD 24 million).

The MS-306 concession agreement has estimated investments of approximately BRL 1.7 billion (USD 412.91 million) over 30 years. According to the studies, the highway improvement should reduce the number of accidents, generate more than two thousand direct and indirect jobs, reduce travel time and save BRL 4 million/year (USD 0.97 million) in investments in highway maintenance.

The contract between the winning consortium and the State must be made within 90 days of the auction (December 5). The works on the highway are expected to start in mid-2020, and the toll plazas within one year of the start of investments. The toll will be BRL 8.72 (USD 2.11).

The MS-306 concession marks the entry of GLP, the global investment manager specializing in logistics, in the area of infrastructure investments in Brazil. This is the first investment in the highway segment made by the company.
