Vietnam sells stake in airports corporation of vietnam to aeroports de Paris

The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) has recently announced a plan for selling a 7.4 percent stake to France's Aeroport de Paris, the airport company that owns and manages the fourteen civil airports and airfields near Paris.

According to local sources, the shares will be sold at a minimum price of VND13,100 (US$0.58) per share, thus Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) will receive about VND2.2 trillion (US$97.38 million) for the 166 million shares. However, the agreement is not closed and the purchase price could be higher.

The announcement comes after investment authorities in Vietnam approved in 2014 a plan to privatize the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), a 97 % country's state-owned airport authority. The currently government needs funds for financing some important projects, such as the expansion of Ho Chi Minh City's Tan Son Nhat Airport and the construction of Long Thanh Airport, what could accelerate the agreement.

The Long Thanh airport project was approved by the National Assembly in June 2015. Upon completion, the airport will be able to handle about 100 million passengers and five million tones of freight per year. It will be located nearly 90km southwest of the country's current main airport, Tan Son Nhat International.

Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) was founded when three companies operating airports in the north, the middle and the south of Vietnam were merged on February 28, 2012. The company manages and operates 21 all civil airports in Vietnam, including 8 international airports and 13 domestic airports. The company headquarters is located in Tan Son Nhat International Airport, the busiest airport in Vietnam.
