Valparaiso port seeks investor for new terminal

According to the schedule set by the Empresa Portuaria de Valparaíso (EPV) for the tender process of Valparaiso terminal 2 concession, March 20th was the last day for firms currently involved in the operation of port terminals in region V to submit their proposals for the new contract.

Von Appen Group, which is the current operator of Valapariso's terminal 1 concession was reported to have interest in the tender but it did not finally submit a proposal. The firms Ultramar, Matter and Luksic, other current operators, did not bid either.

March 27th is the deadline for new operators to submit proposals for the project. Mitsui, Besalco, Mitsubishi and OHL are said to be among the twelve companies that bough tender documents, according to the local press.

The project received no bids in the first attempt to award the project. The total investment required is US$350 million.

According to the local press, the Chairman of Empresa Portuaria de Valparaíso (EPV) was optimistic about the development of the project.
