USD1.26 billion contract awarded for Metro PPP project in Mexico

Mota-Engil and Chinese rolling stock maker CRRC have signed a EUR1.3 billion (US$1.26 billion) contract for the construction of Monterrey subway system in Mexico.

The project involves the development of three metro lines 4, 5 and 6 with a total length of 36 km connecting the city centre with Santa Catarina in the north and Mederos in the south and 19 stations. The system will have the capacity to carry approximately 500,000 passengers on a daily basis.

The total investment of the project will depend on whether Line 5 is elevated or built at ground level. The construction of the metro lines is expected to be completed in 5 years.
