A consortium led by Spanish contractor Obrascón Huarte Lain (OHLA) has won a contract worth EUR 95.7 million (US$ 102.8 million) for the construction of Subsection 1 of the northern section of Line 3 of the Seville Metro in Spain.
The company leads the joint venture responsible for implementing the project, which encompasses approximately one-fourth of the route of the northern section of Line 3 of the metro, stretching from Pino Montano to Prado de San Sebastián, covering a distance of 1.7 km out of 7.4 km. Additionally, the initiative involves constructing a 699-m technical branch to link the line with workshops and depots. This branch section includes a 138-m viaduct spanning the Tamarguillo stream and the Ronda Súpernorte (SE-20). Subsequently, 1.7 km of the line will traverse the Pino Montano neighborhood to Ronda Urbana Norte, incorporating three stations. Apart from the initial 300 m above ground, the remainder of the line will be situated underground. The project, awarded by the Consejería de Fomento, Articulación del Territorio y Vivienda of the Junta de Andalucía, also entails constructing three stations and completing an additional 699 m to finalize the technical branch, which is presently under construction, facilitating connectivity between the Metro and the workshops and depots.
The project spearheaded by OHLA is a component of the northern section, spanning over 7.5 km, incorporating 12 stations, and is anticipated to have an 18-minute travel duration. The route will traverse significant healthcare facilities such as the San Lázaro Hospital, the Macarena Health Center, the Red Cross Victoria Eugenia Health Center, and the María Auxiliadora Specialties Center. This segment commences in the northern part of the city and terminates in the Prado de San Sebastián-Huerta de la Salud area, marking the start of Avenida de la Borbolla. It is projected to serve approximately 13.3 million users annually.
