Triunfo gets financing for Brazilian road concession

Brazil's national development bank BNDES has approved a R$3.58 billion (US$895 million) long term loan for the infrastructure group, Triunfo Participações e Investimentos (TPI), to finance the concession of Brazil's federal highways BR-060, BR-153 and BR-262 operated by Triunfo Concebra.

The loan will be adjusted by the BNDES long-term interest rate (TJLP) plus 2%, with a grace period until the end of the investment period which is set in 5 years, and an amortization period of 20 years. The amount corresponds to 65% of eligible investments planned by 2020, totaling R$5.5 billion

The funds will be used to settle the first bridge loan granted by BNDES to the concessionaire and for the investment needed to the duplication of 647.8 km of highways and other works.

As we noted above, in June 2014 Brazil's national development bank BNDES approved the first R$1.06 billion (US$472.1 million) bridge loan for the infrastructure group Triunfo Participações e Investimentos (TPI), to finance the concession.

In early December 2013 Triunfo Participações e Investimentos (TPI) won the tender process for the project, which involves 1,177km of highway stretches along BR-060, BR-153 and BR-262, passing through the Federal District and the states of Goiás and Minas Gerais.

The project consists of three different sections:

  • The BR-060 links the capital, Brasilia, with the central state of Goias and runs through Anapolis, a major agricultural and industrial hub in central Brazil.
  • The BR-153 connects the central city of Goiania with the southeastern states of Minas Gerais and Sao Paulo and it is a key route for transporting farm products to consumer markets.
  • The BR-262 links Brasilia with Belo Horizonte, capital of Minas Gerais.
