Transurban relocates U.S. headquarters to Virginia

Governor Bob McDonnell announced yesterday that Transurban has relocated its U.S. headquarters from New York City to Fairfax County in Virginia.

Transurban is the investor and long-term operator of the 495 Express Lanes and 95 Express Lanes in Virginia.

According to The Toll Road News, the company closed its office in New York:

The company closed its New York office earlier this month and laid off all six of its senior staff. These included a top lawyer, a financing expert and project managers. The head of the North American operation Michael Culper, previously in New York is understood to be leaving.

Jennifer Aument will be the new head of North American Transurban operations working out of their offices in Virginia.

The 495 Express Lanes opened in November 2012 after a six-year construction period. Construction of the 95 Express Lanes is currently underway with the lanes expected to open in early 2015.

Transurban's Fairfax County headquarters currently employs 50 people with approximately another 60 who support the project with various contracting roles at the Express Lanes Operations Center.

"As we celebrated the opening of the 495 Express Lanes in Fairfax County last fall, Governor McDonnell urged us during the ceremony to move our U.S. headquarters to Virginia," said Jennifer Aument, Group General Manager - North America, Transurban. "We're pleased to officially call Virginia our home base as we continue to partner with Virginia on innovative transportation solutions that keep Virginians moving."
