Three EOIs submitted for Melbourne metro rail systems project

Three Expressions of Interest (EOI) have been received from consortia vying to deliver the deliver Metro Melbourne Tunnel's Rail Systems package of works in Australia.

Shortlisted bidders will be announced in the coming months.

In late April, we informed that the Government of Victoria launched the Expressions of Interest (EOIs) process. The start of project procurement process was possible after the Government of Victoria announced that it will fully fund and deliver the project. This decision came after the government received interest for the project development from some of the world’s biggest construction and engineering firms.

The Rail Systems Alliance will design, develop and deliver up to AUD1 billion worth of signalling, communications and other related systems for the Metro Tunnel, including the installation of high-capacity signalling on the Sunbury-Cranbourne/Pakenham line and the delivery of international-style platform screen doors at all five new underground stations.

The new line will have five underground stations at Arden, Parkville, CBD North, CBD South, and Domain. Additionally, it will have train/tram interchanges at Parkville and Domain and rail tunnel entrances at South Kensington and South Yarra.A total of sixty five brand new and high capacity trains will run on the line, freeing up more trains and more space all over Melbourne.

The total project investment is estimated to be between A$9 billion (US$6.8 billion) and A$11 billion (US$8.4 billion).
