Rail Baltica has announced the nomination of 3 companies for the second stage of the tender for the Rail Baltica main line in Latvia. The EUR7 billion (US$6.9 billion) project includes the development of an 870 km long railway line connecting five European Union countries – Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Finland.

The nominated companies are Italferr SpA (Italy), SYSTRA SA (France) and an association of persons consisting of Tecnica y Proyectos SA (Grupo TYPSA) and PROINTEC S.A.U. (Spain). The companies are required to submit their financial and technical proposals.

The winning companies will be obliged to supervise the construction of the Rail Baltica railway line outside the city of Riga - the railway base and the upper structure - with a length of more than 200 km. Responsibilities include site preparation, embankments, construction of railway bridges, roads and overpasses, relocation of utilities and track construction, as well as contract management and enforcement. The contract with the winning bidder will be awarded at the end of 2022.
