Texas Municipal Retirement System allocates $775m for REITs, infrastructure

The Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) has allocated US$775 million of commitments comprising US$375 awarded to Nuveen Asset Management and US$400 to Cohen & Steers Capital Management.

This investment managers run separate accounts for the US pension fund. This commitments will aim mostly to invest in REITs (real estate investment trusts) and infrastructure in the US and abroad including existing infrastructure properties, debt and preferred equity.

Texas Municipal began its relationships with the managers in December of last year, allocating each US$350 million.

While Nuveen strategy focuses on investments backed by tangible, long-term assets that demonstrate consistent incomes from long-term contracts and concessions, Cohen & Steers has a multi asset class strategy.
