Ministry of Public Works in Chile has launched a tender notice seeking private developers for the second concession of Highway 5 in its Talca – Chillán Section. The project budget is USD 796 million. The project is the most anticipated road concession in the country due to the high traffic it has.

An approximate projected length of the route is 195 km, and it includes the Regions of Maule and Nuble. The project covers the provinces of Talca, Linares, Punilla and Diguillin and communes of Río Claro, San Rafael, Pelarco, Talca, Maule, San Javier, Villa Alegre, Yerbas Buenas, Linares, Longavi, Retiro, Parral, Niquen, San Carlos, San Nicolas, Chillan y Chillan Viejo.
The project scope of work includes the development of dual carriageways, implementation of third tracks, expansion and uniformity of berms, replacement of all road safety and signaling elements of according to current regulations, replace old bridges, build service streets, walkways and structures such as bridges, viaducts, railroad crossings, links, returns, crossings.
In addition, the project will include the incorporation of a bypass with an approximate extension of 54 km designed for speed of 120 km/h (bidirectional with two tracks per direction).
The project will also will include expansion of third lanes in the sector between San Carlos and Chillán Viejo, rehabilitation of existing roads, rectification of curves and slopes for speed of 120 km/hr with specific exceptions, enabling new bridges, links, walkways, crossings, returns and stretches of service streets and the progressive implementation of a Collection System through electronic toll gates throughout its route.
The length of the concession is 25 years.
The deadline to submit the response to the notice is January 31, 2020. The financial offers will be opened on February 28, 2020.
