Tender issued for Road Corridor PPP project in Uzbekistan

The Committee for Roads under the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan has invited sealed bids from eligible Bidders for the Reconstruction of 4 km of 4R180 Road, Section 0–4 km.

The initiative known as the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Corridor 2, specifically the Karakalpakstan Road (A380 Kungrad to Daut-Ata Section) Project, aims to enhance and widen approximately 240 km of the Guzar, Bukhara, Nukus, Beyneu highway (A380) within the Republic of Karakalpakstan. This road segment is integral to CAREC Corridor 2, serving as a vital trade route in the region. The project's objectives include improving the institutional capacity of the Committee for Roads under the Ministry of Transport to ensure effective road maintenance, regulate vehicle overloading, and enhance road traffic management.

Situated in the Kungrad district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the project road extends from 964 km on the A380 highway to the Kazakh border at 1,204 km. CAREC Corridor 2 plays a pivotal role in connecting the Caucasus and Mediterranean regions to East Asia, spanning Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and the People's Republic of China. The corridor encompasses a comprehensive network, featuring 9,900 km of roads and 9,700 km of railways. The 240 km project is the final segment to complete CAREC Corridor 2, facilitating trade access to the Caspian Sea. While most A380 road sections from Bukhara to 964 km have been reconstructed, the stretch from 964 km to 1,204 km exhibits unsatisfactory pavement conditions, including cracks, potholes, and rutting. The road rehabilitation project aims to upgrade this section to a two-lane Category II road with cement concrete pavement, considering local materials, durability, and environmental friendliness.

The deadline for submission of bids is February 23, 2024. Additional details regarding this tender can be accessed through our Business Opportunity page here.
