Technical study to be concluded for US$215 million Port Terminal PPP project in Peru

The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) has concluded the technical study (formulation) of the Chimbote International Terminal project in Peru.

The project, requiring an estimated investment of US$215 million, aims to stimulate economic growth and foreign trade in surrounding regions such as Ancash, La Libertad, Cajamarca, Huánuco, and Ucayali. As a multipurpose terminal, it will play a strategic role in supporting the development of agro-industrial projects like Chinecas and Chavimochic, as well as the fishing industry, with specialized handling capabilities for container cargo. The terminal will be equipped to accommodate Panamax vessels of up to 4,500 TEU and Post-Panamax vessels.

Currently, PROINVERSIÓN is in the process of preparing the Project Evaluation Report, which involves resizing the Self-Financed Private Initiative (IPA), conducting a gap analysis, and preliminary risk allocation. This also includes ensuring consistency with National and Regional Government plans, determining the size of the investment, and estimating operation and maintenance costs. As per the private initiative, the project entails the construction of a specialized container dock, as well as the expansion and reinforcement of the existing pier operated by the regional port, along with its equipment and modernization efforts. Specifically for the container terminal, plans include dredging to widen the access channel, turnaround area, and operational area of Dock 4, constructing a new container yard, erecting buildings and auxiliary workshops, and procuring gantry cranes.
