SMRT Corporation has commenced passenger operations on Stage 4 of the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL4), adding seven new MRT stations to Singapore’s rail network.
SAA Architects is the architectural consultant for three of the seven stations in this stage: Marine Terrace, Siglap, and Bayshore. They are responsible for station planning and the full architectural scope from project inception to delivery. Once completed, the line will span 43 km, enhancing connectivity between the north, central, and eastern parts of Singapore. The TEL is expected to initially serve around 500,000 commuters daily, with the number growing to one million in the long term.
The 10.8-km section will include stations at Tanjong Rhu, Katong Park, Tanjong Katong, Marine Parade, Marine Terrace, Siglap, and Bayshore. With the opening, approximately 235,000 households in Singapore will be within a 10-minute walk of an existing TEL station. Currently, around 27 out of 32 TEL stations are operational. The fifth stage of TEL (TEL5), connecting Bayshore and Sungei Bedok, will be completed by 2026. Additionally, there are plans to build an extension to Changi Airport, which is expected to be completed in the mid-2030s.
