Solihull Council (UK) has announced it decision terminate its PPP contract with Rivendell Leisure, a subsidiary of Equitix, to deliver its leisure services.
Parkwood Community Leisure, who had been subcontracted by Rivendell to run Tudor Grange and North Solihull leisure centres, will continue to deliver the leisure services under a new interim contract with the Council.
The scheme involved the construction of a brand new leisure centre at Tudor Grange Park, replacing an old facility and also the refurbishment of North Solihull Sports Centre. It has a capital value of £14 million (US$18.5 million).
Whilst the Council remains happy with the services being provided, it is this contract structure that the Council is seeking to change in order to achieve maximum financial value for the local authority moving forwards.
The Council has started a retender process in order to secure a better financial arrangement for its tax payers and it has already had successful initial engagement with the leisure market. The aim is to select an operator by the end of March 2018 to take on a new management contract for the centres from June 2018.
It is anticipated that Parkwood Community Leisure will bid along with other specialist leisure management operators for the new contract
In the meantime current services will continue as normal and leisure centre users will not be affected.
HS2 has published the names of the bidders in the running to win the Euston Master Development Partner contract.
