Six candidates expressed interest on Tuesday, May 6th 2014, for the first phase of the international public tender for the selection of the private partner who will undertake the implementation of waste management facilities in Corfu, via a PPP.
The deadline for the submission of expressions of interest was May 6th, 2014.
The candidates expressed interest as follows:
The private partner will be selected through an international public tender via a competitive dialogue procedure and will undertake the design, construction, financing, maintenance and operation of the waste management facility for a period of 27 years.
The facility in Corfu will manage about 87 thousand tons of waste annually, covering the total of solid municipal waste produced in the administrative area of Corfu and providing a permanent solution to the problem of waste management on the island.
As in all waste management PPP competitions in Greece, the process allows all available technologies that cover the environmental targets set by European and Greek legislation, fostering healthy competition among bidders and facilitating the selection of the optimal solution.
The lowest fee to be paid by the users will constitute the main selection criterion, while meeting all environmental goals.
The projects will utilize funds provided by the European Union's structural funds for the co-financing of the construction costs by 40-60%.
