The Nova Scotia Healthcare Authority has announced that site preparation has started for a new healthcare facility in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Construction activities will commence, involving the installation of fencing, site excavation, and obtaining required construction permits. A new public emergency department entrance off Bell Road is also slated for construction. The project aims to build a contemporary healthcare facility with 216 acute care beds, 16 operating rooms, an intensive care unit, and an expanded emergency department. Simultaneously, upgrades to the Halifax Infirmary's Summer Street entrance are ongoing, slated to become the primary entrance during construction. Utility relocation and the replacement/renovation of the hospital's magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) space are also part of the ongoing efforts.
PCL Construction will collaborate with the Government of Nova Scotia on this expansion project, with the province investing CAD254 million (US$ 187 million) in the design and site preparation phase. The Halifax Infirmary expansion will facilitate the relocation of services from aging facilities like the Victoria General Hospital and Dickson Centre to newly constructed and renovated spaces.
