Siemens Financial Services (SFS) has completed its first successful hospital development financing in the Netherlands, teaming up with local lender ABN Amro Bank to provide a €58 million corporate loan to Ommelander Ziekenhuis Groep (OZG), a regional healthcare provider.
The funding will help build a new €110 million hospital in Scheemda, northeast of Groningen in the Netherlands. The remainder of the financing will be provided by the Universitair Medisch Centrum Groningen (UMCG), the Province of Groningen and the Waarborgfonds voor de Zorgsector (WfZ).
The new hospital in Scheemda will replace OZG's two existing and outdated locations, providing optimized patient capacity to meet future demand while reducing operational costs.
The hospital, which will have a floor space of 35,000 square meters and 200 patient rooms, will focus on providing emergency care, preventive care, chronic care and oncology.
Siemens Healthcare has also signed a long-term managed equipment service (MES) contract with OZG. The MES contract includes the procurement, replacement and maintenance of vendor-neutral diagnostic imaging equipment items for radiology and cardiology.
Among them are ultrasound and x-ray equipment, angiography solutions, computed tomography scanners, magnetic resonance systems, as well as molecular imaging equipment. Within the scope of this contract, Siemens Healthcare will also offer clinical solutions, professional services, room renovations, training for clinical users, and onsite technical support.
Anthony Casciano, global head of Healthcare Finance at SFS, said in a press release:
"We are delighted to complete our first hospital project financing in the Netherlands. Siemens' commitment to this project goes beyond financing the construction to also include the installation, management, maintenance and disposal of medical equipment as well as training and reporting. This combination of financial and technical expertise will help contribute to the success of the project, which will be a critical part of the leading provider of healthcare in the Groningen region."
ees Smaling, CEO of Siemens Healthcare in the Netherlands, said:
"This is an important step for Siemens Healthcare in the Netherlands. It is the first time that we are contributing to a part of the financing for a new hospital. By doing so, we are staying a step ahead of our competitors, and I'm proud of that. Through this act, Siemens is making an even greater contribution to good healthcare in the Netherlands."
This project is an important milestone demonstrating financial commitment from SFS that helps OZG secure financing for its new hospital as well as signaling the capabilities SFS has to provide financing solutions for healthcare operators in the Netherlands.
