These teams will be invited to respond to an RFP this summer to begin preparing their proposals that detail how they will deliver the project. Upon evaluating the proposals received, IO and Metrolinx expect to award the tunneling contract in mid-2021.
The Eglinton Crosstown West Extension is a 9.2-kilometre extension of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT (future TTC Line 5). The extension will run mostly underground, westward from the future Mount Dennis Station to Renforth Drive. Metrolinx is actively collaborating with the GTAA and municipal partners on the proposed alignment from Renforth Drive to the airport, which takes into account the GTAA's plans for a Regional Transit Centre.
To expedite work on the project, tunneling will begin first, to be followed by separate contracts for the balance of the work, which includes building the stations, fitting-out the tunnels and installing and commissioning the systems.
