Seven teams shortlisted for Prince George´s county waste to energy P3

The Prince George's County in Maryland, USA, has recently announced that seven teams have been shortlisted for the development of the Prince George's County waste processing PPP project in the municipality of Largo.

The project involves the development of a new waste treatment plant to transform the non-recyclable municipal solid waste into recover recyclable material and to produce solid, liquid, or gaseous fuel, steam, and/or power.

The list of shortlisted teams that was recently published includes:

  • Abengoa Bioenergy
  • Covanta Energy, LLC
  • Mustang Renewable Power
  • Prince George’s County Waste To Energy Recovery Partners
  • Repower South, LLC
  • Shanks Waste Management Ltd.
  • Wheelabrator Urbaser, SA

The project will be developed on a design, build, finance, operate and maintain basis under a  20 years lease-agreement with two optional five-year extensions of the agreement.

The waste processing project was initially tendered in November 2014, but an updated request for qualification (RFQ) was launched in January 2016.

Additionally, the county has changed its request for proposals (RFP), which will be issued only to the shortlisted teams, release date from July 1 to September 1.
