The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has announced the addition of seven new mass rapid transit (MRT) stations to the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) in Singapore.
The Thomson-East Coast Line is a fully-underground MRT line, currently operated by SMRT Trains Ltd. and is designed to be a medium-capacity radial rapid transit line that consists of 32 stations, spanning 43 km, when fully completed.
Completing Stage 4 of the TEL introduces new stations, including Tanjong Rhu, Katong Park, Tanjong Katong, Marine Parade, Marine Terrace, Siglap, and Bayshore. These additions are expected to significantly reduce travel time for commuters, with up to a 50% reduction in travel time. As a result, approximately 235,000 households will now be within a 10-minute walk from a TEL station.
Furthermore, the line will be extended with the addition of Bedok South, Sungei Bedok interchange, and Xilin stations by 2026, marking the conclusion of Stage 5 for both the TEL and the Downtown MRT Line (DTL) extension projects. Additionally, the East Coast Integrated Depot, which includes connecting tunnels to the TEL and DTL and viaducts from the East-West Line, is scheduled to open in 2026.
