Saudi Arabia to re-tender 3.6 GW Independent Power Plant PPP Projects

Saudi Power Purchasing Company (SPPC) has announced it will be ‏re-tendering the RiyadhQassim IWT Pipeline and the Taiba Independent Power Plant public-private partnership (PPP) projects each with a 3.6 GW capacity in Saudi Arabia.

SPPC will re-tender projects for four smaller 1,800 MW combined cycle energy projects with carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) readiness. Previously qualified developers will be automatically included in new projects, other interested participants can also submit their applications. Projects are in line with KSA’s Saudi Green Initiative and its stated goal of net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2060. The projects will show the ability of the developer to implement CCS or other potential solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, this will also increase the participation of developers, global EPC players and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

The Requests for Proposals (RFPs) will be issued on January 20, 2023.
