San Francisco seeks advisors for broadband project

The Department of Technology (DT) on behalf of the City and County of San Francisco, USA, has announced that it is seeking interested parties to respond to a Request for Information (RFI) regarding the city’s Broadband Choices at Home project.

More specifically, DT is looking to engage the services of one or more advisors, who will assist in the preparation of the Request for Proposal (RFP), the next stage in the project development. Therefore, DT will use the information received from respondents to this RFI to:

  • Refine the scope of work for the advisory services RFP
  • Help determine funding requirements for the advisory services RFP
  • Inform other aspects of the advisory services RFP
  • Assess interest and potential participation in responding to the advisory services RFP

At this juncture, the City of San Francisco is considering two means of implementing the broadband project for which it is seeking these advisory services, through a potential public-private partnership or instead a potential publicly-funded model.

The project is a comprehensive municipal broadband initiative intended to:

  • Offer gigabit Internet access to all households and businesses
  • Help bridge the digital divide
  • Cultivate a robust and competitive Internet Service Provider market

Interested parties must respond to this Request for Information (RFI) before May 20 at 11:00 pm (City of San Francisco time).
