The Municipality of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) has launched the tender process to develop an electric transportation system called "Carro Elétrico Carioca" under the public private partnership (PPP) model.
As we published in early May, the first version of the tender was published in late April, but it was suspended due to questions raised by the Court of the City. However, the tender notice has been published now again on July 20.
The preferred bidder will be responsible for the construction, operation and maintenance of the new transport system under a 5 year concession contract. The total investment is estimated at R$19 million (US$5.4 million).
The new facility will comprise a total of 100 electric cars, 50 recharging station and 200 parking spaces, which will be located in the following areas: Cosme Velho, Centro, Cidade Nova, Glória, Leblon, Laranjeiras, Botafogo, Urca, Catete, Copacabana, Leme, Flamengo and Ipanema.
The feasibility study for the project was developed by a consortium made up BYD, PwC, Idom, Albino Advogados and Dirija Já.
The new deadline for submitting proposals is on or before August 24th.
