The Municipality of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) has launched a tender process to develop an electric transportation system called "Carro Elétrico Carioca" under the public private partnership (PPP) model.
The preferred bidder will be responsible for the construction, operation and maintenance of the new transport system under a 5 year concession contract. The total investment is estimated at R$19 million (US$5.4 million).
The new facility will comprise a total of 100 electric cars, 50 recharging station and 200 parking spaces, which will be located in the following areas: Cosme Velho, Centro, Cidade Nova, Glória, Leblon, Laranjeiras, Botafogo, Urca, Catete, Copacabana, Leme, Flamengo and Ipanema.
The feasibility study for the project has been developed by a consortium made up BYD, PwC, Idom, Albino Advogados and Dirija Já.
Interested parties must submit their proposals on or before May 30.
