The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) has reissued a request for qualifications (RFQ) seeking a master developer to construct an intermodal bus hub and public parking facility near or adjacent to the Providence Train Station as part of a Transit Oriented Development (TOD) public private partnership (P3).
It is the intention of RIDOT to work in collaboration with a highly experienced firm to construct the Providence Intermodal Transportation Center (PITC) that includes a bus terminal and public parking along with a residential, retail, office, and/or commercial overbuilds/adjacent development.
Submission deadline for interested bidders is on July, 31. Further information is available here.
As we reported in August 2016, RIDOT issued a first RFQ for the project. In November, it received proposals from four real estate development firms. The firms submitting proposals were: Boston Development Collaborative, LLC; Boston Properties Limited Partnership; Marsella Development Corporation; and Redgate Capital Partners.
In 2014, the voters of the State of Rhode Island approved a US$35 million state bond to support the construction of transit hubs such as PITC. While federal funds are being used for planning, RIDOT does not contemplate using federal funding for design and construction.
The PITC project seeks to efficiently and effectively tie together Rhode Island’s public bus system, Amtrak regional rail, private intercity coach buses, taxi, limo services, and other forms of transportation while at the same time fostering Transit-Oriented Development (TOD).
