RFQ for autonomous vehicle project in USA

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) in Florida has issued Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for the design, build, operation and maintenance of an autonomous vehicle project on approximately three miles of Bay Street in Jacksonville, Florida. The project is known as Phase I of the Ultimate Urban Circulator Program (U2C) and called the Bay Street Innovation Corridor (BSIC).

The Project integrates innovative and emerging technologies into public transportation while enhancing overall mobility throughout Downtown Jacksonville.

The U2C is a multi-phased program aimed at converting and expanding the automated people mover (Skyway) into an autonomous vehicle (AV) network. By transforming the current Skyway, extending the reach within the urban core through the Bay Street Innovation Corridor and expanding beyond into adjacent neighborhoods, U2C supports the vision of a vibrant, revitalized and better-connected Downtown Jacksonville.

The BSIC project will result in passenger ready and compliant autonomous vehicles that operate in mixed-use traffic in a designated lane leveraging existing infrastructure along Bay Street from the Jacksonville Regional Transportation Center on the West to TIAA Field on the East. The private partner will provide for initial deployment of up to 12-15 federally compliant autonomous vehicles. Vehicles will need to be uniquely branded and operable at an initial estimated frequency of 5-7 minute intervals.

RFQ response deadline is on August 14, 2020. Pre-Submital Conference will be held on June 30, 2020.
