Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Metrolinx have issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to the three shortlisted teams to bid on the advance tunnelling work on the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension (ECWE) PPP project in Toronto.
Teams have been invited to respond to an RFP and will begin preparing their proposals that detail how they will deliver the project. The shortlisted teams are NORTH AMERICAN TUNNEL PARTNERS, WEST END CONNECTORS and FAST EGLINTON GROUP. You can see the companies of each team in the project profile.
Upon evaluating the proposals received, IO and Metrolinx expect to award the tunnelling contract in mid-2021.
The Eglinton Crosstown West Extension is a 9.2-kilometre extension of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT (future TTC Line 5). The extension will run mostly underground, westward from the future Mount Dennis station to Renforth Drive.
Once complete, the ECWE will connect to different transit services, including the GO Kitchener Line and UP Express train service at Mount Dennis, TTC bus services at transit stops in Toronto, and GO and MiWay bus services via the Mississauga Transitway. Metrolinx is actively collaborating with the GTAA and municipal partners on the proposed alignment from Renforth Drive to the airport, which takes into account the GTAA's plans for a Regional Transit Centre.
To expedite work on the project, tunnelling will begin first, to be followed by separate contract for the balance of the work, which includes building the stations, fitting-out the tunnels and installing and commissioning the systems.
