El Fondo Nacional de Fomento al Turismo (Fonatur) in Mexico has received two proposals in response to tender for providing rolling stock of the Tren Maya system. The following companies submitted the proposals :
Bombardier Transportation México, Alstom Transport México, Gami Ingeniería e Instalaciones, Construcción Urales and Construcciones Urales Procesos Industriales (amount offered US$ 36,563,731,221.12)
The tender included the following services :
Acquisition, testing, and start-up of 42 trains for the demand for the Mayan Train
Acquisition, equipment, testing, and commissioning of railway systems necessary for the proper operation of the Mayan Train, as well as the design, construction, and commissioning of infrastructure for its equipment such as control posts (central and zone)
Design, construction, and equipment of maintenance workshops and garages necessary for the safeguarding and conservation of trains
The provision, by the supplier, of an after-sales service related to the conservation and optimal operation of the equipment. Additionally, this service will include the transfer of knowledge by the provider.
The ruling will be issued on May 26, once Fonatur has analyzed each of the proposals received in this open international public tender.
The Fonatur in Mexico has announced the changes to the Maya train project. The Mérida-Cancún-Chetumal section of the project will be electrified from its original construction. The 690 km section comprises 40% of the total railroad.
