Project finance attorney Mark Tibberts joins Baker & McKenzie

Mark Tibberts has joined Baker & McKenzie as a partner, bringing more than 20 years of experience handling energy finance and transactional matters, both domestic and international.

Based in New York, Mr. Tibberts' practice has a particular emphasis on development, project financing and the sale and acquisition of energy and other infrastructure projects. Mr. Tibberts has a wide range of finance experience, including bank loans, private placements, trade finance, and Rule 144 a offerings. He also has represented buyers, sellers and other participants in numerous mergers, acquisitions and JV involving energy and infrastructure projects, and has negotiated the full scope of project contracts.

Mr. Tibberts recent representative matters include, among others:

  • Representing an international lender group in a $925 million project financing of a chemical production plant in Texas, including both construction loan and 15-year term loan facilities
  • Representing the winning bidder in $1 billion+ acquisition of a power plant in New Jersey.
  • Representing a power generation company in a $1.4 billion financing program to finance flue-gas desulphurization equipment (SO2 scrubbers) for coal-fired power plants in Ohio and Indiana. The financings included two separate $400 million private placement note offerings and $200 million in tax-exempt bonds.

Mr. Tibberts commented:

Mr. Tibberts received his Bachelor of Arts from The Ohio State University, where he graduated with honors in 1986. In 1989, he received his Juris Doctor, with honors, from Ohio State. Mr. Tibberts is a member of the American Bar Association - Public Utility, Communications and Transportation Law Section, the Energy Bar Association, and the Energy & Mineral Law Foundation.
