Italian company 7 Seas Med Srl has filed a request to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport for the maritime state property concession for the installation of the 250 MW floating offshore wind project in the Strait of Sicily for a duration of 30 years.
The proposed project will be located about 35 km from the northwest coast of Sicily. It is estimated to cover up to 1.26 million sq.m. of water surface and 131 sq.m. of state maritime area of the municipalities of Marsala, Favignana, and Marettimo. It will feature 25 turbines with an individual generating capacities of 10 MW and an offshore transformer substation for the introduction energy in the national grid.
The development is in the preliminary stage of securing the concession grant. The developers will need to conduct an environmental impact assessment of the area. The estimated value of the procurement is EUR84.4 million (US$95.2 million) excluding value-added tax. The project cost is estimated at about EUR741 million (US$840.30 million).
The project is being developed in partnership with the Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). Once the concession is granted, the construction could start in 2023.
