Preferred bidder to announce for Metro PPP project in Greece

The Hellenic Ministry of Developments and Investments has to announce the preferred bidder for the EUR100 million (US$108 million) Thessaloniki Metro system by the end of July 2023 in Greece.

The commencement of the fourth line construction in the Athens metro and the implementation of smaller initiatives like establishing a tram depot in Elliniko is underway. Additionally, the Thessaloniki Metro expansion to Kalamaria will involve the addition of 15 new trains. This includes 6 trains for the main Thessaloniki Metro project and 9 trains for the Kalamaria extension.

The Thessaloniki Metro Development Study (MAMTH) is currently underway, specifically focusing on the preliminary works for Line 4. These initial activities involve archaeological excavations, relocating utility networks, implementing traffic regulations, constructing bypasses for Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) networks, and landscaping the site. Additionally, there are ongoing construction efforts for a new metal building adjacent to the existing tram depot. This building will serve as a storage facility for 22 new tram vehicles, utilizing 11 parallel tracks.
