A consortium led by Brazilian companies CCR Group and Invepar has been selected as the preferred bidder for Port area light rail PPP in Rio de Janeiro. The contract includes the design, build, operate, and maintain the 28km light rail network in Porto Maravilha, Rio de Janeiro.
The consortium member RATP Dev will operate the system for 25 years, and CCR has confirmed that Alstom will supply a fleet of Citadis low-floor LRVs for the project. The estimated investment is US$530 million.
The project is a crucial one for the preparation of the city for the Olympic Games of Rio de Janeiro 2016.
PPP contract to design, build, operate, and maintain the 28km light rail network in Porto Maravilha, Rio de Janeiro. The 42-station station network is expected to carry up to 250,000 passengers per day, with services operating at headways ranging from 5 to 15 minutes. The first two lines are scheduled to open next year with the remaining four due for completion in 2016.
