Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) has announced the name of the consortium for its Rabigh 4 Independent Water Plant (IWP) project in Saudi Arabia.
The preferred bidders are ACWA Power, Haji Abdullah Alireza & Co (HAACO) and Al Moayyed Contracting Group (AMCG). The winning consortium will be responsible for the construction and operation of a 600,000 m3/day desalination project and storage tanks with a total capacity of 1,200,000 m3 as well as extension and connection to the existing electricity transmission substation. They submitted levelised water cost tariff of SAR1.7162 per m3, equivalent to US$0.46/m3, for the reverse osmosis (RO)-based desalination project. The consortium of Acciona Agua and Ajlan & Bros, which was named as the reserve bidder, submitted a tariff of SAR2.0386 /m3 or US$0.54/m3.
The IWP is expected to start commercial operations in the Q4 of 2025.
