Urban Development Institute (IDU) in Colombia has published the pre-bidding documents for a bus rapid transit trunk line along Avenue 68 in Bogota. The project is a part of the TransMilenio system. The megaproject will have a value of COP 3.2 billion (USD 945,85 million) including the property acquisition.

The Ave 68 line will be 17 km long and will cross through the neighborhoods of Kennedy, Puente Aranda, Tunjuelito, Engativá, Fontibón, Barrios Unidos, Teusaquillo, Suba, Usaquén and Chapinero.  The line will feature 21 stations different from all the ones in the system today: they will be made of tempered glass, taller, wider and with overhangs to protect users from the rain. Along the entire corridor, 15 pedestrian bridges, seven vehicular bridges, four overpass vehicle crossings and three underground pedestrian crossings will be built.

The project will benefit 3 million inhabitants of 10 districts of the city and will connect 7 trunks of the TransMilenio system. TransMilenio on Ave 68 will reduce travel time up to 50% for those who move along this route from the south to areas such as Simón Bolívar Park, The Botanical Garden, El Salitre Coliseum or the Metropolis sector. In addition, the transit trunk line will allow transit system users to connect to the city´s first metro line at the Avenida Primera de Mayo station.

The project will benefit cyclists and pedestrians. There will be 13.7 new kilometers of bike paths built and 4.3 km of existing bike paths will be repaired, making it a total of 18 km of bike paths.

The tender for the project will select a private developer different than the one in charge of the metro project. The developer for the metro line is consortium APCA Transmimetro formed by the China Harbor Engineering Company Limited and Xi'an Metro Company Limited.
