The Management Board of the Sea Port in Gdańsk (MBSPG) have announced that they intend to launch a tender to conduct a feasibility study for the Central Port in the Gdańsk Seaport. The tender may be launched this year, if not then certainly in the first quarter of 2018. In its entirety, the project will involve the construction of brand new, universal terminals over several hundred hectares of the bay area. It is hoped that it will be completed in ten years.
In Gdańsk, the Central Port is situated between the outlet of the seaport channel and the Naftoport.
The Central Port project will consist of a number of piers and terminals. MBSPG has stated that each new terminal will be managed by an operator. MBSPG will construct the access infrastructure, and a private partner will finance the construction of particular terminals and probably operate the new infrastructure.
MBSPG hope that one or two new terminals will be operational within five years. In order to get construction underway, they intend to tender out the development of an engineering concept regarding the shape of the central port. The number of terminals then constructed will depend on the number of partners willing to participate.
The value of the investment amounts to approximately PLN6-9 million (US$1.7-2.5 million). According to the MBSPG’s declarations, the investment is intended to attract customers from Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Ukraine.
