Albania’s Football Association and AlbStar have achieved commercial closure for the National Arena public private partnership (PPP) project. Albstar was the sole bidder in the tender process.
AlbStar is one of the biggest companies in Albania in the field of civil engineering.
The project involves the development of a new 22,000-seat stadium, which will have a total of 14,000 square meters for business purposes and 4,000 square meters for the headquarters of Albania’s Football Association.
The total project investment is estimated at €50 million (US$56.3 million).
The project will be developed on the site of Qemal Stafa stadium in Tirana. The new facilities are expected to be operational in 2019, after a three year construction period.
According to sources, Prime Minister Edi Rama commented:
“What is of great importance is that neither the government, nor the football association will spend a single cent on the ‘National Arena’ because this will be a public-private partnership.”
