PLUS selected to operate highway concession in Malaysia

Projek Lebuhraya Usaha Sama (PLUS) Malaysia Berhad has been selected by the government of Malaysia to operate the Jabor-Kg Gemuruh highway concession.

The company was selected as the preferred bidder beating up six other companies bidding for the road concession, after Public-Private Partnership Unit (Ukas) closed the tender in May 2014.

According to sources, the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) and Ukas are working on a 18-year concession agreement, which is expected to be signed in September this year.

The plans to toll the 184 km highway was announced earlier this year. The highway was officially opened on 31 December 2014. The total project investment was RM4.25 billion (US$1.11 billion), of which RM1.8 billion (US$472.8 million) were funded by the state government and the remainder by the federal government.

PLUS is the largest highway concessionaries or build, operate and transfer (BOT) operator company in Malaysia. A member of the UEM Group, the company is also the largest listed toll expressway operator in Southeast Asia, Asia, and the eighth largest in the world.
