The City of Phoenix Aviation Department, which owns and operates Sky Harbor International Airport, has issued a Request for Information (RFI) for the development of a transportation hub.
The city is soliciting ideas, comments and feedback from the wider infrastructure development community through a formal RFI from firms experienced in large scale commercial development who have a serious interest in any or all of the following at the future West Ground Transportation Center (West GTC):
The PHX Sky Train station at the West GTC will be at the center of the future development. The completed 5-mile train system is expected to transport a total of more than 80,000 passengers per day when the Rental Car Center extension opens in 2021.
Potential parking at the West GTC would be the preferred economy parking location for passengers driving from communities west of the Airport as the current economy parking on the west side (near Terminal 2) is phased out. An office, hotel, or other commercial development at this site would be an unsurpassed location for quick and convenient access to the Airport, and through the PHX Sky Train would include a link to the METRO Light Rail.
The airport served over 43 million passengers in 2016, making it the 11th busiest airport in the country.
The deadline for submitting proposals is July 14, 2017. Further information is available here.
