Peru appoints Álvaro Quijandría as new Executive Director of ProInversión

The Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) has appointed Álvaro Quijandría Fernández to the position of Executive Director of the Private Investment Promotion Agency (Proinversión), through Supreme Resolution.

Álvaro Quijandría holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics from “Del Pacífico” University and a Master of Science in Agricultural Economics from the State University of North Carolina. He is also an expert on regulatory issues and development policies in the financial and private sector.

Previously, he served as Leading Specialist in the Private Sector Development of the Global Competitiveness and Trade Practice of the World Bank Group in Latin America and the Caribbean. In addition, he has been regional manager for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Investment Climate Program of International Finance Corporation (IFC).

Furthermore, he was a partner of APOYO Consulting, where he developed consulting projects in various countries in the areas of economy applied to regulation, market competition analysis, competitiveness and foreign trade, in addition to monitoring the economic situation, economic development projects and Impact assessments.

The new Executive Director of ProInversión was also a member of the boards of several leading microfinance institutions in Latin America, such as Mibanco in Peru, Bancosol de Bolivia and Forjadores of Mexico. He was also professor of economics applied to competitive strategy and regulation at “Del Pacífico” University and the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences.

The resolution also accepts the resignation of Carlos Herrera Perret, thanking him for the services rendered. Herrera Perret held the position since 2015.
