San Diego County Regional Airport Authority has selected a preferred developer to design, construct, finance and operate a cargo facility.
Aviation Facilities Company will develop the cargo terminal through the PPP model.
The project, which aims to meet growing demand, involves the construction of a new 100,000 square foot cargo processing space and the associate aircraft infrastructure, including parking slots for aircraft and connecting taxiways from the runway to the terminal.
The project cost amounts to US$173 million.
As we reported, the authority launched a RFQ to develop the project in December 2015. In July 2016, two other firms were shortlisted: LynxsWest and Airis Development Group.
The US airport sector has seen an important increase in P3 activity over the last months. For example, as we reported last September, the Edgemoor Infrastructure & Real Estate Team was recommended by the KCI Selection Committee as its preferred partner to privately finance, design, and build a new single terminal at Kansas City International Airport.
