Ontario launches RFQ for transport hub

Infrastructure Ontario, together with Metrolinx, has launched a request for qualifications (RFQ) for the redevelopment of the Port Credit GO Station in Mississauga.

The area surrounding Port Credit GO Station was designated a mobility hub in Metrolinx's regional transportation plan, The Big Move, and the station has been identified as an ideal site for redevelopment. The project will bring improved station facilities while better connecting retailers, employers and residents with frequent and reliable transit options.

The new station infrastructure will be delivered using a design-build procurement model, and the mixed-use, transit-oriented development project will be completed by the private sector.

RFQ submissions will be reviewed to pre-qualify project teams with demonstrated experience in the development, design and financing of mixed use projects that exhibit excellence in design, place-making and integration of transit, and the delivery of large, complex infrastructure projects. Short-listed teams will be invited to respond to a request for proposals, expected to be released in fall 2015.

Steven Del Duca, Minister of Transportation, stated:

"Today's announcement to redevelop the Port Credit GO Station aligns perfectly with our government's plan to create one-stop transit hubs integrated with residential, retail and employment and that provide seamless connections with other transit systems. This is proof of our commitment to making the daily commute and quality of life better for Ontario families."

Bruce McCuaig, Metrolinx, President and CEO, commented:

"This project is the first of its kind for Metrolinx. This is a great example of how we intend to work with the private sector to enhance the connectivity, community cohesiveness and local commerce of Port Credit while supporting transit-oriented development."

Bert Clark, Infrastructure Ontario President and CEO, added:

"Infrastructure Ontario has extensive real estate experience in large, complex procurements. We are pleased to oversee the procurement process and assist Metrolinx in their selection of a preferred proponent to redevelop Port Credit GO Station for the benefit of the community's transit riders."
