OHL Concesiones submits the best financial bid for a new toll road in Chile

The Chilean Ministry of Public Works has recently announced the outcome of the re-tendering process for Ruta R20 Nogales - Puchuncavi road PPP project, in the Region of Valparaíso, to extend the infrastructure and improve technical standards and service levels in the existing road.

According to a press release of OHL Concesiones Chile, they have submitted the best financial bid for the project. The groups that submitted bids for the project, besides OHL Concesiones, are the following:

  • A consortium formed by Besalco Concesiones S.A, Belfi S.A and Icafal Inversiones S.A
  • Sacyr Concesiones Chile SpA
  • A consortium formed by Acciona Concesiones Chile Ltda and CAM Holding SpA.

The project involves the upgrade of the 27 km route and the development of a 16 km bypass to Laguna Maitencillo y Quintero. Additionally, a 7 kilometer Bypass in Puchuncaví, and a 9 kilometer Bypass in Ventana will be developed. With the project implementation will reduce traveling times and will increase road safety.

In addition, three new viaducts will be built: a second Nogales bridge and Puchuncaví abd Chocalán bridges. Six new pedestrian bridges, a bicycle path, local streets and more and better signaling will be also developed.

The maximum term of the new concession is 38 years and the estimated investment is US$210.

Camino Nogales-Puchuncaví was originally tendered in 1995. Now as a result of growth registered in the region and development of the Ventanas industrial area, consequently increasing traffic amongst heavy vehicles, the road needs to be updated in order to respond to growing traffic demands, to relieve local traffic flow and to guarantee road safety for drivers.
