NHAI releases RFP for seven road projects The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has released lists of prequalified bidders for seven road projects under the DBFOT model. Final bids for these public private partnership (PPP) projects have to be submitted on September 29th (the three first projects of the table below) and 30th (the four final projects of the table below). Considering the foreign bidders and having in mind that there around 20-25 Indian contractors-developers that bid for every single project in India, it is interesting to highlight the following things:
  • The location of the first project (in the state of Meghalaya) in the table has made it not very attractive to foreign bidders
  • In the 6-Laning of Agra-Etawa section of NH-2 we can see a new player in the Indian market: Ascendi -the highway operator owned by the portuguese contractor Mota Engil- in a joint venture with a strong local player, Essar Infrastructure. We can also see Hochtief, the german contractor controlled by Spanish conglomerate ACS in a joint venture with SREI Infrastructure. A Russian joint venture formed by Transtoy and OJSC has also qualifed.
  • In the 4-laning of Hospet-Chitradurga we still can see the very succesful joint venture of Soma Tollways and the Spanish Isolux Corsan. In other qualifications Soma is bidding on its own and Isolux has joined forces with C&C Construction.
  • In the Rehabilization of the section Cuttak-Angul of NH-42, bidders were the same as for the 4-laning of Hospet-Chitradurga.
  • Bidders for 6- Lanning Etawah-Chakeri (Kanpur) Section of NH-2 were the same as for the Rehabilization of 4-laning of MH_ KNT _Border-Sangareddy.
