New Philippine president maintains support to PPP Program

The transition committee of the new Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte has recently announced, during a press conference held on May 12, that the new Government will continue to support the PPP program.

During this conference a committee member bared the 8-point economic agenda of the new Government and he revealed that the stock market is now up 5 percent.

The main points revealed by the new committee are related to infrastructure investment, being the following:

  • Accelerate infrastructure spending by addressing, among others, major bottlenecks in the Private-Public partnership (PPP) program. Maintain the target of setting aside five percent of the country’s gross domestic products (GDP) to infrastructure spending.
  • Ensure attractiveness of the Philippines to foreign direct investments by addressing restrictive economic provisions in the Constitution and our laws, and enhancing competitiveness (i.e., “ease of doing”) the economy.
  • Pursue a genuine agricultural development strategy by providing support services to small farmers to increase their productivity, improve their market access, and develop the agricultural value chain by forging partnership with agribusiness firms.

We have recently reported about PPP projects to be carried out in the Philippines as the Laguna Lakeshore Expressway and Dike-Calamba-Los Baños Toll Expressway, which is now in stand by, as other projects, due to the recently change in the Government.
