North Marmara highway BOT projectTurkey's transportation, maritime and communication minister, Binali Yildrim, has announced that the tender for the North Marmara highway BOT project, which includes the third Bosphorus bridge, will take place on April 5, 2012.Yildirim said the project has been divided in two new projects:
- the first part of the project would be to build a 90-kilometer motorway and a bridge with build-operate-transfer (BOT) model.
- 340-kilometer North Marmara Motorway project to be built with national resources.
According to the miniter, the project is now more attractive to prospective bidders because it is more profitable and narrower. Chinese bidders are expected to bid in this tender.
Project history
The proposed 1,275-meter-long suspension bridge over the Bosporus plus the North Marmara highway was described as Turkey's second-biggest BOT scheme; the project was expected to cost $6 billion and would connect the Northern Marmara Highway with the Trans-European Motorway. Announced in March 2011, the bidding was set to take place in August, but delayed until Jan. 10, 2012 at the request of the bidding companies. Due to a lack of offers from construction companies, government officials have restructured the project in two different ones.
