Municipality in Sao Paulo launches waste PPP tender

The municipality of Taubate in Sao Paulo (Brazil) has launched a tender process for the development of a water treatment system PPP.

The selected bidder will be involved in the construction and development of a municipal water treatment system. The team will also provide urban waste management and cleaning services.

Total revenues of the waste PPP project are valued at R$1.9 billion (US$859 million). The contract agreement is for a period of 30 years.

Interested parties must submit their proposals on or before 2 July 2014.

Tender documents were subject of a public consultation between December 2013 and January 2014.

Brazil has several waste PPP projects in tender stage. In March 2014, the state of Distrito Federal received five expressions of interest for a PPP contract to improve wastewater services in the Entorno do Distrito Federal microregion. The area covered by the PPP contract includes ten municipalities: Águas Lindas de Goiás, Alexânia, Cidade Ocidental, Cristalina, Formosa, Luziânia, Novo Gama, Planaltina, Santo Antônio do Descoberto and Valparaíso de Goiás.

Additionally, three companies submitted proposals for a sewage public private partnership project  in the municipality of Guarulhos, in the state of São Paulo. The object of the PPP contract is the provision of public transport, treatment and disposal of sewage from the municipality urban area. The contract will involve capital investments, operation and maintenance of the sewage system.
