Multimillion Funding approved for regional rail feasibility studies in Philippines

The Project Development and Monitoring Facility (PDMF) has approved funding for feasibility studies for 2 proposed regional rail projects in the Philippines.

The studies aim to determine the alignment of the railways, the number of stations and other deliverables. The grant funding is PHP200 million (US$3.63 million) for the following regional train plans:

  • 54.8-km Northern Mindanao segment of the Mindanao Railway System railway project links Cagayan de Oro to Laguindingan and Villanueva, Misamis Oriental; and
  • San Mateo project is a 17-km railway connecting Light Rail Transit Line 2 to San Mateo and Rodriguez, Rizal.

After completion, the studies will be submitted to the National Economic Development Authority's (NEDA) Investment Coordination Committee for approval to undertake the projects using a public-private partnership (PPP).
