MTBS selected as Transaction Advisor for Kenyan port project

The Kenya Public Private Partnership Unit (PPPU) has selected Maritime & Transport Business Solutions (MTBS) as its transaction advisor for the Kisumu sea port development project.

MTBS will undertake a feasibility study on the commercial and technical viability of the project to be implemented by the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA). The firm shall provide all support in preparing and executing the transaction, including market forecasting, PPP structuring, contract and transaction process design and implementation support.

The project involves the development of Kisumu Port into a modern commercial Lake Port to serve the growing trade in the Eastern Africa region. It is expected to be developed though a build, operate and transfer (BOT) model. The preferred bidder would be responsible for the development, operation and maintenance of the port.

The total project investment is estimated at Sh22.5 billion (US$238.7 million).  The project is supported by the World Bank.

Kisumu is the third largest city in Kenya, the principal city of western Kenya, the immediate former capital of Nyanza Province and the headquarters of Kisumu County.
