Mexico’s Conagua to tender six water PPPS

Conagua, the national water commission of Mexico, has announced the tender of at least six water infrastructure projects under the PPP scheme.

The whole hydraulic portfolio, which will encompass a total investment of around MXN10 billion (US$537 million), will be essential to meet the water needs in the country.

According to Roberto Ramírez de la Parra, head of Conagua, the tenders are scheduled to be launched between now and early 2017, once the respective technical studies and tender specifications are completed.

Ramírez has also explained that two of the PPP contracts will involve the development of desalination plants located in Guaymas, Sonora and Los Cabos in Baja California Sur state. The other remaining projects will comprise the development of a water treatment facility.

Furthermore, there is a plan to modernize the national weather system with the participation of the private sector. Some proposals have already been submitted to the Mexican Chamber of Construction Industry.
